Family feasts

Special occasions require special food. Treat your family and friends to an array of fine flavours and textures that are sure to bring an extra sparkle to the autumn and mid-winter festivals we all love to celebrate

From Apple Day in October, through to Hallowe'en, Bonfire Night, Christmas, New Year and Burns Night, to name but a few examples, as autumn passes into winter, there's nothing like a get-together with friends, family and neighbours to lift the spirits. If that means enjoying good food and drink, then all the better. These recipes for festive feasts celebrate a variety of tastes and international preferences.

We've featured in particular cucurbits - pumpkins, squash, marrows, melons and cucumbers to you and me - which come in many wonderful shapes and sizes and some, such as gourds, can be left au naturel as a seasonal decoration.
